Friedrich Gerstäcker, o viajante alemão que palestrou no Salão da Real Academia Militar do Rio de Janeiro

Abstract

A obra de Friedrich Gerstäcker, autor alemão do século XIX, viajante que por duas vezes passou pelo Brasil, ainda é praticamente desconhecida do público brasileiro. O autor foi trabalhado na tese de doutorado que resultou no livro “Brasilien ist nicht weit von hier! Die Thematik der deutschen Auswanderung nach Brasilien in der deutschen Literatur im 19. Jahrhundert (1800-1871)”. Pelo público alemão, Friedrich Gerstäcker geralmente é tido como autor de literatura de aventura. No caso da literatura publicada sobre o Brasil, contudo, acredita-se que não se pode falar de uma literatura desse gênero. Nesse sentido, pretendese apresentar aqui a obra do referido autor relacionada ao Brasil e tornar mais conhecida a sua produção.

Friedrich Gerstäcker, the German traveler who spoke to the emperor Dom Pedro Though the 19th century German writer and traveler Friedrich Gerstäcker visited Brazil twice, his work is still unknown by Brazilian researchers. The aforementioned writer was the subject of my Phd research and originated the book ‘Brasilien ist nicht weit von hier!’ Die Thematik der deutschen Auswanderung nach Brasilien in der deutschen Literatur im 19. Jahrhundert (1800-1871). To German readers Friedrich Gerstäcker is commonly considered a writer of adventure literature. However, we cannot include his work in this type of literature when considering his publications about Brazil. Therefore, this paper presents Gerstäcker’s work regarding Brazil, aiming to make his publications better known in our country.
