| pt_BR |
dc.description.abstract | This work seeks to understand how the INPC (National CPI) has changed for the period between 1995 e 2012. The research also evaluates the impact of the INPC components and the price changes observed in 11 capitals cities of states included in the indicator on the aggregate index. Third, it verifies how the income of these capitals cities influenced on the prices changes and whether or not there is a relationship between the income level of the families and the price levels. This is because the INPC reflects the changes in the cost of living of the poorest Brazilians – those whose incomes range between 1 and 5 minimum wages – in other words, the ones who are the most sensitive to changes in the price level. It is therefore important to comprehend the variables that induce the growth rate of this price index. In order to do that, this work initially discusses the theoretical development of price indices and the different approaches about inflation. Moreover, it presents other indexes measured in Brazil, such as IGP-FGV, IPCA-IBGE and IPC-FIPE. It is described how the components of INPC and how the Brazilian capital cities have influenced the national index, assigning more or less importance according to the results found. Finally, it is asked if the regions with higher incomes have presented higher price indices than the lower income regions, in order to identify the role that income, a major determinant of demand, plays on inflation. | en |
