Representações de espaço e tempo no olhar de Hollywood sobre a escola

Abstract

Esta dissertação trata das representações de espaço e tempo escolares em um conjunto de dezesseis filmes hollywoodianos, das décadas de 60 a 90, que tem a educação e a escola como tema centrais. O objetivo da pesquisa é mostrar como as narrativas sobre escola, educação, estudantes e docentes apresentadas nesses filmes, na perspectiva do olhar de Hollywood, operam na constituição e manutenção de uma representação moderna de espaço e tempo escolares. A análise consistiu em problematizar essas representações, desde o ponto de vista das reflexões pósestruturalistas, no campo dos Estudos Culturais. As contribuições foucaultianas incorporadas por Julia Varela ao percorrer as pedagogias escolares produzidas em diferentes momentos históricos, bem como o conceito de representação como prática de significação, tal como empregado por Stuart Hall e seus colaboradores, constituem o aporte teórico desta pesquisa. Procuro discutir as relações desses filmes hollywoodianos com as transformações culturais deste final de século em que as concepções espaçotemporais se alteram profundamente e aponto para algumas conexões entre essas concepções e o trabalho docente.

This study deals with the representations of space and time schooling in a collection of 16 hollywoodian movies, from the 60 to 90 decade, that has the education and the school as the main subject. The research aims to show how the narratives about school, education, students and teachers presented in these movies, in the perspective point of view of Hollywood, work in the constitution and maintenance of a modern representation of space and time of the schools. The analysis consisted in questioning these representations, from the point of view of the post structuralists reflections, in the field of Cultural Studies. Foucault’s contributions embodied by Julia Varela examining the school pedagogies produced in different historical stages, as well as the concept of representation as practice of meaning, as employed by Stuart Hall and his team, constitute the theorical support of this research. I try to discuss the relations of these hollywoodian movies with the cultural changes at the end of this century, in which the conceptions of space and time are altering deeply, and I point out some relationships between these conceptions and the teaching.
