Terapia assistida por cavalos em crianças com paralisia cerebral : uma revisão integrativa

Abstract

A paralisia cerebral são desordens motoras e posturais que resultam de lesões, danificações ou disfunções ao sistema nervoso central. A terapia assistida por cavalos é uma das abordagens que apresentam um diferencial no tratamento para reabilitação de crianças com paralisia cerebral. Esse estudo tem como questão de pesquisa conhecer quais são os benefícios da terapia assistida por cavalos em crianças com paralisia cerebral, tendo como objetivo sintetizar o conhecimento sobre essa terapia e os benefícios para melhorar a qualidade de vida das mesmas. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa que incluiu artigos da área da saúde, nos idiomas português, inglês e espanhol, compreendidos no período de 2005 a 2015, das bases de dados eletrônicos: Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) e Public MEDLINE (PubMed), realizada no mês de julho no ano de 2016, sendo aprovado pela Comissão de Pesquisa da Escola de Enfermagem da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (COMPESQ – EEUFRGS), sob o parecer número 31.485. Os resultados do estudo demonstram que a terapia assistida por cavalos é uma modalidade dividida em hipoterapia e equoterapia, que aplicadas podem melhorar significativamente a qualidade de vida dessas crianças. Conclui-se que essa modalidade não convencional de fisioterapia para crianças com paralisia cerebral, pode melhorar efetivamente a função motora destas, assim como promover diferenças importantes na vida diária dos pacientes, cujas melhorias são significativas em relação ao autocuidado e interação social. Ressalta-se que há uma escassa parcela de equipes multiprofissionais e de enfermeiros atuantes nesse tipo de tratamento. Nessa revisão integrativa, nenhum estudo brasileiro foi encontrado, o que limita a discussão dos benefícios aplicados nessa modalidade em relação a realidade nacional.

Cerebral palsies are motor and postural disorders that result from injury, damage or dysfunction of the central nervous system. Equine-assisted therapy is a distinct approach in the treatment and rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy. This study's research question was to know the benefits of equine-assisted therapy in children with cerebral palsy, and its objective was to synthesize the knowledge about this therapy and the benefits to improve the quality of life of the children. This is an integrative review that included articles on health in the Portuguese, English and Spanish languages, from 2005 to 2015, that were available at the electronic databases: Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE) and Public MEDLINE (PubMed), carried out in July 2016, and approved by the Research Committee of the Nursing School of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (COMPESQ - EEUFRGS) under the number 31.485. The results of the study demonstrate that the equine-assisted therapy is a modality divided in hippotherapy and horseback riding, that can significantly improve the quality of life of these children. We conclude that this unconventional modality of physiotherapy for children with cerebral palsy can effectively improve their motor function, as well as promote important differences in the daily life of patients, with significant improvements regarding self-care and social interaction. It should be noted that there is a small number of multidisciplinary teams and nurses working in this type of treatment. This integrative review found no Brazilian study, which limits the discussion of the benefits of this modality in the Brazilian context.
