A África do Sul durante a Guerra Fria : apoio e oposição internacional ao regime do Apartheid

Abstract

Este trabalho trata do regime do apartheid na África do Sul e as ações dos atores do Sistema Internacional a respeito deste, bem como de que forma estas ações deram condições para sua manutenção e término. Objetiva-se analisar como a lógica e estrutura bipolar do Sistema Internacional durante a Guerra Fria condicionaram as relações exteriores dos atores internacionais com a África do Sul e seu regime, bem como qual o grau de influência destas relações sobre a permanência do regime no poder ou sua remoção. O trabalho realiza uma análise geral das interações entre a África do Sul (tanto seu regime quanto seus movimentos de oposição) e alguns atores do Sistema Internacional: Estados Unidos da América, União das Repúblicas Socialistas Soviéticas, Índia, Israel, Reino Unido, Alemanha Ocidental, Países da Linha da Frente, bem como organizações internacionais - como a Organização das Nações Unidas - e o movimento internacional antiapartheid. Após esta análise, colocam-se os motivos para o fim do regime do apartheid, relacionando-os com as mudanças na conjuntura internacional e seus efeitos nas interações analisadas anteriormente. Por fim, são descritos os primeiros passos do novo regime e seu novo alinhamento internacional.

This work is about the apartheid regime in South Africa and the actions of the International System’s actors towards it, and how these actions gave the conditions for the continuity and eventual ending of said regime. The goal is to analyze how the logic and bipolar structure of the International System during the Cold War conditioned the foreign relations between South Africa and its regime with other States, as well as how much influence these relationships had in determining the regime’s remain in power or its removal. This paper makes a general analysis of the interactions between South Africa (regime and opposition) and some relevant actors in the International System: United States of America, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics, India, Israel, United Kingdom, Western Germany, Frontline States, as well as international organizations - such as the United Nations - and the anti-apartheid movement. After this analysis, the reasons for the end of the regime are pointed out, linking them to the changes in the international landscape and its effects in the interactions previously analyzed. In the end, the first steps of the new government after apartheid are described and compared to the previous one.
