Inteligência artificial e imaginários futuristas em 2001: Uma Odisseia no Espaço (1968), de Stanley Kubrick

Abstract

Esta monografia tem como objetivo estudar as características do imaginário futurista sobre a tecnologia, especialmente a inteligência artificial, com vistas a encontrar relações com o filme 2001: uma odisseia no espaço (1968), do diretor Stanley Kubrick, tomando como contexto social e histórico a Guerra Fria na década de 1960, nos EUA. Além da pesquisa bibliográfica envolvendo as teorias do imaginário e da inteligência artificial, foi feita uma análise fílmica de 2001, com fins de compreender o que o personagem HAL-9000, um supercomputador inteligente, diz sobre a perspectiva futurista da época e da cultura em que o longa-metragem foi produzido, através do uso dos mitos de Prometeu e Fausto. Sob essa perspectiva, observou-se o mito fáustico, que percebe a tecnologia como apocalíptica, cada vez mais presente no personagem HAL, conforme o filme vai apresentando características mais elevadas de inteligência artificial no supercomputador.

This monograph aims to study the characteristics of the futuristic imagery about technology, especially artificial intelligence, in order to connections with the movie 2001: a space odyssey (1968), directed by Stanley Kubrick, taking as a social and historical background the Cold War in the 1960s in the USA. In addition to the bibliographic research involving theories of imagery and artificial intelligence, a 2001 film analysis was made to understand what the HAL-9000 character, an intelligent supercomputer, tells about the futuristic perspective of the time and culture in which the feature was produced through the use of the myths of Prometheus and Faust. From this perspective, we observed the Faustian myth, which perceives technology as apocalyptic, increasingly present in the HAL character, as the film presents higher characteristics of artificial intelligence in the supercomputer.
