Otacílio Camilo (1959-1989) : estética da rebeldia

Abstract

O presente estudo visa trazer à luz do sistema das artes a poética visual de Otacílio Camilo – artista gaúcho que morreu prematuramente aos 30 anos de idade – e, dessa forma, contribuir para o desenvolvimento de uma historiografia da arte local, mais plural e abrangente. A pesquisa busca identificar características que apontem sua poética criadora por meio da análise do conjunto de trabalhos que integram instituições museológicas de Porto Alegre e acervos pessoais de familiares e amigos do artista. Além disso, busca identificar como a obra de Otacílio Camilo se relaciona com o contexto em que foi produzida. A análise dos trabalhos leva em consideração sua dimensão formal, semântica e social. O cruzamento de referenciais teóricos da história da arte com documentos e dados levantados em entrevistas evidenciou dois momentos importantes na produção de Otacílio Camilo, cujo ponto de transição é o ano de 1983. O primeiro diz respeito ao seu ingresso no Atelier Livre da Prefeitura (ALP) e o contato com a linguagem da gravura associado a noções da arte contemporânea. O segundo período está vinculado ao período em que o artista percorre diversas cidades brasileiras desenvolvendo seus trabalhos a partir de experiências errantes pelo espaço urbano. A partir disso, é possível identificar grupos temáticos gerados a partir de constelações, ou seja, de tendências e concepções artísticas difundidas ao longo do século XX, pautadas pela estratégia de aproximação entre arte e a vida cotidiana, visando à transformação da sociedade.

The present study aims to bring to light the visual poetics of Otacílio Camilo - a gaucho artist who died early at the age of 30 - and, in this way, contribute to the development of a historiography of art encompassing local artistic pluralism. The research seeks to identify characteristics that point to the creative poetics of the artist through the analysis of the set of works that integrate museums of Porto Alegre and personal collections of family and friends of the artist. In addition, it seeks to identify how the work of Otacílio Camilo relates to the context in which it was produced. The analysis of the works is done taking into account its formal, semantic and social dimension. Thus, the intersection of theoretical references in the history of art with documents and data collected in interviews showed two important moments in the production of Otacilio Camilo, whose transition point is 1983: the first concerns his entrance into the Free Atelier of the City Hall - ALP and the contact with the language of engraving associated with notions of contemporary art. The second period is linked to what I call drifting journeys, in which the artist travels through several Brazilian cities, developing his works from errant experiences in the urban space. From this, it is possible to identify thematic groups generated from constellations, that is, from trends and artistic conceptions spread throughout the twentieth century, guided by the strategy of approaching art and everyday life, aiming at the transformation of society.
