A religião Islâmica na legenda áurea de Jacopo de Varazze

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar o Islã na obra de Jacopo de Varazze (†1298), a Legenda Áurea. A partir da leitura do capítulo sobre “São Pelágio, papa”, busquei identificar como o dominicano caracteriza o Islã e problematizar possíveis porquês da aversão à religião monoteísta fundada no século VII. O problema de pesquisa neste trabalho é: A representação da religião Muçulmana, na Legenda Áurea, está relacionada com a expansão islâmica para o Sul Italiano e a derrota na batalha pela posse de Jerusalém? O trabalho está dividido em três capítulos. No primeiro falo sobre o conceito de hagiografia e os trabalhos desenvolvidos sobre a Legenda Áurea; no segundo desenvolvo uma análise sobre o Islã no capítulo de São Pelágio, Papa; no terceiro realizo uma análise sobre esta religião em outros capítulos da mesma obra. A conclusão de deste trabalho é que a representação do Islã na Legenda Áurea está vinculada com a tentativa de apresentar essa religião como uma heresia do Cristianismo, de maneira a diminui-la em um momento posterior às derrotas nas batalhas pela posse da cidade sagrada.

This paper has the objective of analisis the Islam in the book written by Jacopo de Varazze (†1298), The Golden Legend. Begining with the lecture of “Saint Pelagio, Pope”, we search for how the Dominican characterize the Islam and, at the same time, to problematize possible reasons of the aversion to this monotheistic religion, founded in the seventh century. The search problem here is: Is the representation of the Muslim religion, in the Golden Legend, related with the Islamic expansion to the South of Italy and with the defeat of the battle for Jerusalem? This work is divided in three chapters. The first one is about the concept of hagiography and the studies about the Golden Legend; in the second we develop an analisis about the Islam presence in the Saint Pelagio, Pope, chapter; in the third we realized an analisis about the presence of the Islam in other chapters of this document. The conclusion of our paper is that the representation of the Islam, in the Golden Legend, is related with the attempt to present this religion as a Cristian heresy, trying to reduce the force of this Faith in a moment posterior to Cristian deafeat in the battle for the Holy City.
