Qualidade na representação temática : algumas considerações

Abstract

Relato de pesquisa qualitativa, que consiste em uma Revisão de Literatura sobre a Representação Temática no Processo de Indexação. Objetiva verificar o atual estado-da-arte na qualidade da representação temática, a fim de identificar as contribuições teóricas e atuais tendências, a partir de um levantamento na literatura periódica publicada na área, nos últimos cinco (5) anos. Por tratar-se de estudo teórico e não o resultado da observação direta de dados, seu corpus de pesquisa consistiu no levantamento de informações publicadas somente em artigos de periódicos eletrônicos e impressos publicados no Brasil. A partir das afirmaçõs dos autores, delinearam-se os pontos comuns encontrados na literatura acerca da qualidade da representação temática apontados por Lancaster e tratados com maior profundidade por outros autores. Aborda o caráter interdisciplinar do conhecimento humano e descreve a importância do conhecimento e utilização prática das contribuições teórico-metodológicas em que se pautam a terminologia e a lingüística textual para oferecer qualidade à representação temática. Destaca o aspecto problemático do fenômeno da explosão informacional que repercute na área de representação temática devido ao seu caráter mutante, e como o desenvolvimento de habilidades de leitura profissional e o domínio dos instrumentos de indexação qualificam a etapa de representação. Descreve os fatores intervenientes na qualidade da representação que estão ligados ao indexador, ao processo, ao vocabulário e ao documento. Investiga na literatura científica elementos que ofereçam à análise documentária subsídios teóricos consolidados para que se construa, a partir das reflexões dos autores, seu próprio referencial teórico e metodológico que leve em consideração os objetivos do centro de informação no atendimento das demandas sociais e individuais. Constata que a análise documentária carece ainda de muitas reflexões e considerações sobre a interferência das variáveis presentes no processo de indexação e como influem na qualidade da representação.
