Feminilidades (im)possíveis em Malévola : uma abordagem de gênero

Abstract

A investigação que resultou nesta dissertação de mestrado se inscreve nos campos dos estudos de gênero e culturais pós-estruturalistas. Toma como foco o live-action Malévola (2014) para analisar feminilidades re(a)presentadas no filme, e indagar se elementos de discursos feministas poderiam estar imbricados na composição dessas feminilidades (em especial as que se constituem na composição da protagonista em relação com outros/as personagens da trama). O material empírico foi produzido com a utilização da etnografia de tela e as unidades analíticas que resultaram desse processo foram discutidas pelo viés da análise cultural. Os filmes são, aqui, considerados como artefatos culturais, em que representações e identidades podem ser (re)produzidas, negociadas, disputadas e transformadas e, desse ponto de vista, funcionam como pedagogias culturais que incidem sobre, e podem modificar, identidades e relações normativas de gênero . Nessa direção, ferramentas analíticas como cultura, gênero, pedagogias de gênero, representação e identidade, foram utilizadas para decompor e recompor a narrativa fílmica apresentada, por meio da análise de identidades assumidas pela personagem Malévola, em sua relação com outros/as personagens do filme, quais sejam: as identidades de líder, vingativa e maternal. Com essa análise, tornou-se possível argumentar, a partir das cenas selecionadas, que a personagem protagonista parece ter sido representada, por uma amálgama de elementos inscritos em seu corpo feminino híbrido humano-animal-fada-bruxa, e a potência deste corpo dá pistas sobre as distintas posições de sujeito atribuídas a ela ao longo do roteiro, e das suas relações com outras personagens da história, que são atravessadas pelo gênero.

The research that resulted in this work is part of the post-structuralist studies about gender and culture. It focuses on Maleficent live-action (2014) to analyze the (re)presentations of feminilities in the movie, and it asks about the imbrication of elements from feminist discourses in the composition of these feminilities (in particular those that constitute the protagonist's compositioning relation to the other characters of the plot). The empirical material was producing from the screen ethnography and the analytical units that resulted from this process were discussing by the cultural analysis bias. Movies are considered, by this work, as cultural artifacts, in which representations and identities can be (re)produced, negotiated, contested and transformed, and, from this point of view, they act as cultural pedagogies, that can affect and modify existing gender relations and identities. In this sense, analytical tools, such as culture, gender, gender pedagogies, representation and identity, were using to decompose and recompose the visual narrative presented, through the analysis of the identities which are assumed by Maleficent in her relationship with other characters in the film, which are: the identities of the leader, the vengeful and the maternal. By this analysis, it became possible to argue, from selected scenes, that the protagonist appears to have been represented as an amalgam of elements which are inscribed in her human-animal-witch-fairy female hybrid body, as well as the power of her body suggests about the different positions of subject attributed to her throughout the script and about her relations with other characters in the history, which are traversed by the genre.
