Da intenção ao gesto: reflexões sobre o patrimônio indígena no Museu Julio de Castilhos

Abstract

Este trabalho propõe uma reflexão sobre as práticas de musealização do patrimônio indígena existente no Museu Julio de Castilhos (MJC), no intuito de identificar as narrativas evocadas a partir dos acervos salvaguardados pelo Museu. O estudo justifica-se por ser uma oportunidade de atentar sobre o papel e o lugar social do Museu Julio de Castilhos frente aos desafios da contemporaneidade. A pesquisa teve como ponto de partida a doação de um petyngua por um membro da etnia Mbyá Guarani e investiga quais representações indígenas são evocadas por esse gesto, levando em conta a forma como o patrimônio indígena tem sido tratado diante do contexto pós-colonial e a colonialidade. A análise foi realizada em fontes documentais institucionais e bibliográficas, perante uma abordagem qualitativa. A investigação aponta a urgência da instituição incorporar novas proposições sobre os patrimônios dos povos originários, de longo prazo, que estimulem o protagonismo indígena frente às narrativas evocadas a partir de objetos referentes à sua história e suas memórias, assumindo uma postura que corrobore com a descolonização do pensamento museológico.

This work proposes a reflection on the practices of musealization of the indigenous heritage existing in the Julio de Castilhos Museum (MJC) to identify the narratives evoked from the collections safeguarded by the Museum. The study is justified as an opportunity to look at the role and social place of the Julio de Castilhos Museum in the face of contemporary challenges. The research had as its starting point the donation of a petyngua by a member of the Mbyá Guarani ethnicity and also to identify which indigenous representations are evoked by this gesture, taking into account the way in which the indigenous heritage has been treated in the post-colonial context and the coloniality. The analysis was carried out in institutional and bibliographic documentary sources, using a qualitative approach. The investigation points out the urgency of the institution to incorporate new propositions about the heritage of the native peoples in the long term that stimulate indigenous protagonism in the face of narratives evoked from objects referring to their history and memories, assuming a posture that corroborates with decolonization of museological thought.
