Rankings universitários: análises de PDI’s de universidades brasileiras ranqueadas

Abstract

Rankings universitários vêm, cada vez mais, ganhando força entre alunos, professores, pesquisadores e gestores do Ensino Superior do mundo todo. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo saber se as universidades brasileiras que estão presentes nos rankings internacionais os mencionam em seus Planos de Desenvolvimento Institucionais (PDI). Tem como justificativa tanto o crescimento midiático que os rankings vêm ganhando, bem como a atualização de trabalho anterior de Alves, Dressler e Vanz (2019). O capítulo de referencial teórico foi dividido em duas seções, a primeira traz uma contextualização da universidade e o desenvolvimento da ciência no Brasil, a segunda apresenta um breve histórico e a ascensão dos rankings universitários internacionais. Como metodologia, este trabalho realiza um estudo quanti-qualitativo analisando a quantidade de menções a rankings nos PDI’s das universidades brasileiras e o conteúdo existente dessas menções. Nos resultados percebe-se que rankings universitários são mencionados nos PDI’s de 57,4% das 54 universidades estudadas. Em comparação com estudo anterior, o número de menções a rankings nos PDI’s de universidades brasileiras cresceu 5,7%. Ao realizar a análise com apenas as universidades presentes no trabalho de 2019, verifica-se que o número de instituições mencionando rankings em suas metas quase triplicou. O que é tratado nos PDI’s sobre o tema rankings varia muito, certas universidades abordam o tema profundamente em suas metas e indicam que é feito o uso de rankings como uma forma de avaliação externa para a instituição, mas também observa-se que algumas das instituições pesquisadas apenas mencionam em seus PDI’s a posição em que a universidade está colocada nos rankings internacionais. Assim, entende-se que as universidades vêm demonstrando cada vez mais interesse nos rankings, e que eles estão de fato presentes nos objetivos de algumas universidades nacionais. Entretanto, o crescimento ainda é considerado pequeno, e no futuro espera-se que o número de instituições que fazem menção a rankings aumente ainda mais, tendo em vista a crescente importância que vem sendo dada ao tema. Dessa maneira torna-se necessário que esse estudo seja atualizado periodicamente, e que haja acompanhamento minucioso, pois sabe-se que rankings estão aqui para ficar.

University rankings are increasingly gaining popularity among students, professors, researchers and higher education managers around the world. The present work aims to know if Brazilian universities mention the outstanding international rankings in their Institutional Development Plans (PDI). It is justified both by media growth and past work done by Alves, Dressler and Vanz (2019). The theoretical framework chapter was first divided into two sections, the first brings a contextualization of the university and the development of science in Brazil, the second presents a brief history and the rise of international university rankings. As a methodology, this work carries out a quantitative-qualitative study analyzing the number of mentions of ranking Brazilian universities’s PDI and the existing content of these mentions. In the results, it can be seen that university rankings are mentioned in the PDI's of 57.4% of the 54 universities studied. Compared to a previous study, the number of mentions of PDI rankings of Brazilian universities grew by 5.7%. When performing the analysis with only the universities present in the 2019 work, it appears that the number of institutions who noted rankings in their targets has almost tripled. What is discussed on the subject of PDI rankings varies a lot, some universities approach the subject deeply in their goals and indicate that rankings are used as a form of external evaluation for an institution, but it is also observed that some institutions mention in their PDI the position in which the university is registered is in the international rankings. Thus, it is understood that they present themselves as increasingly interested in the ranking, and that they are in fact in the goals of national universities. However, the growth is still considered small, and in the future it is expected that the number of institutions that mention a ranking will increase even more, in view of the growing importance that has been given to the topic. Thus, it is necessary that this study is updated periodically, and that there is a detailed monitoring, as it is known that the rankings are here to stay.
