Habilidades sociais em pacientes em uma unidade de internação psiquiátrica : um estudo transversal

Abstract

Introdução: Pessoas com transtornos psiquiátricos tendem a apresentar déficit nas habilidades sociais. Este estudo busca mapear o nível de habilidades sociais, considerando questões básicas como iniciar e manter conversação e estabelecer e manter relações de amizade e românticas. Métodos: Estudo transversal com 91 pacientes internados em unidade psiquiátrica de um hospital geral. Foi utilizado o item Habilidades Sociais do questionário elaborado pelas autoras do projeto para obtenção de dados para análise descritiva e para avaliar associações entre características demográficas e percepção de prejuízo nas habilidades. Resultados: 59,3% consideram que apresentam dificuldade grave em pelo menos 1 item e 21,9% em 3 ou mais itens. O item em que os participantes consideram que possuem maiores dificuldades foi estabelecer relações românticas (41,8%), enquanto o item que consideram ter maior facilidade foi comunicar-se com familiares em casa (79,1%). Status de relacionamento está estatisticamente relacionado com a autopercepção da capacidade de estabelecer relações românticas. Há uma tendência de que pessoas sem alguém tenham mais dificuldade em habilidades sociais e que mulheres avaliem terem mais dificuldades na habilidade de estabelecer relações românticas do que os homens. Conclusões: Indivíduos em momento de agudização do sofrimento mental apresentam expressivo déficit nas habilidades sociais. O nível de prejuízo aumenta à medida que as interações se tornam mais complexas e menos familiares. Assim, é importante que essas questões sejam tratadas desde a internação psiquiátrica.

Background: People with psychiatric disorders often have deficits in social skills. This study seeks to map the level of social skills, considering basic issues such as initiating and maintaining conversation and establishing and maintaining friendships and romantic relationships.Methods: Cross-sectional study with 91 patients admitted to the psychiatric unit of a general hospital. The Social Skills subsection of the questionnaire prepared by the project authors was used to obtain data for descriptive analysis and verification of associations between demographic characteristics and perception of impairment in social skills.Results: 59.3% consider that they have severe difficulty in at least 1 item and 21.9% in 3 or more items. The item in which the participants considered that they had greater difficulties was establishing romantic relationships (41.8%), while the item that they considered as having less difficulties was communicating with family members at home (79.1%). The relationship status was statistically related to the self-perceived ability to establish romantic relationships. There is a tendency for people without someone to have more difficulties with social skills and for women to rate themselves with more difficulties in the ability to establish romantic relationships than men.Conclusions: Individuals in the stage of acute mental distress present a significant deficit in social skills. The level of impairment increases as interactions become more complex and less familiar. Thus, these issues should be addressed from the time of psychiatric hospitalization.
