Bibliotecas universitárias : o deficiente visual e o acesso à informação

Abstract

O objetivo deste estudo é apresentar as iniciativas de instituições de ensino superior para promover o acesso à informação por estudantes com deficiência visual dentro do ambiente da biblioteca universitária. A fundamentação teórica aborda a definição de deficiência visual tanto do ponto de vista clínico quanto educacional, além da importância do sistema Braille na escrita e leitura. Também são discutidas as principais legislações que garantem os direitos das pessoas com deficiência visual e o papel da biblioteca e do bibliotecário como recursos de apoio ao ensino e aprendizagem acadêmica. Utilizando uma abordagem qualitativa, a pesquisa se baseia em análise documental e observações da pesquisadora. A análise documental envolve a revisão de trabalhos realizados por instituições de ensino superior no Brasil, com foco específico nas políticas de acesso à informação na biblioteca universitária, destacando experiências da Unicamp, UFMG e UnB.

The objective of this study is to present the initiatives of higher education institutions to promote access to information for students with visual impairments within the university library environment. The theoretical foundation addresses the definition of visual impairment from both a clinical and educational point of view, in addition to the importance of the Braille system in writing and reading. The main legislation that guarantees the rights of people with visual impairments and the role of the library and the librarian as resources to support teaching and academic learning are also discussed. Using a qualitative approach, the research is based on documentary analysis and the researcher's observations. Document analysis involves reviewing work carried out by higher education institutions in Brazil, with a specific focus on access to information policies in the university library, highlighting experiences from Unicamp, UFMG and UnB.
