Adestramento e bem-estar de cães da polícia do exército

Abstract

A relação entre homens e cães (Canis familiaris) é antiga e sempre foi proveitosa para ambas as espécies. A capacidade de os cães trabalharem em benefício do homem fez com que eles fossem incluídos em diversas atividades humanas como pastoreio, guias, resgate e guarda. Com base nisso, objetivou-se com este trabalho discutir os tipos de técnicas utilizadas no adestramento de cães para entender como elas modificam o comportamento do cão e avaliar o bem-estar dos cães pertencentes ao canil do 3º Batalhão da Polícia do Exército (3ºBPE) através de critérios subjetivos. O trabalho foi conduzido no canil do 3ºBPE, situado no munícipio de Porto Alegre-RS. As informações foram coletadas durante o estágio, nos meses de fevereiro a junho de 2018. A avaliação de bem-estar dos cães foi feita através de quatro grupos de indicadores: nutrição, saúde, alojamento e comportamento. A rotina diária do canil foi acompanhada durante quatro meses, cinco dias da semana, no período integral. No decorrer do estudo dúvidas sobre o treinamento dos cães foram tiradas com os adestradores através de questionamentos e observações. Durante as avaliações foi possível constatar que os alojamentos dos cães foram um dos pontos que mais limitou uma boa condição de bem-estar, no que se refere a posição dos boxes com relação ao sol e o tamanho. Além disso, outro fator limitante na garantia de bons níveis de bem-estar foi o isolamento social dos animais. Toda equipe que trabalhava no canil possuía curso para conduzir e treinar os cães do 3ºBPE. Então, estudar e buscar informações sobre o comportamento do cão, pode auxiliar no seu manejo e garantia de bem-estar. A compreensão de como os cães aprendem pode ajudar os adestradores na escolha de técnicas e métodos de adestramento que garantam um trabalho eficiente e positivo para os cães.

The relationship between men and dogs (Canis familiaris) is ancient and has always been fruitful for both species. The ability of dogs to work for the benefit of man made them included in various human activities such as herding, guides, rescue and guard. Based on this, the objective of this work was to discuss the types of techniques used in dog training to understand how they modify dog behavior and to evaluate the welfare of dogs belonging to the 3rd Army Police Battalion (3ºBPE) through subjective criteria. The work was conducted in the 3ºBPE kennel, located in the municipality of Porto Alegre-RS. The information was collected during the training period from February to June 2018. The evaluation of dog welfare was done through four groups of indicators: nutrition, health, housing and behavior. The daily routine of the kennel was monitored for four months, five days a week, full time. Throughout the study doubts about the training of the dogs were taken with the trainers through questioning and observations. During the evaluations it was possible to verify that the dogs' lodgings were one of the points that most limited a good condition of well-being, regarding the position of the boxes with respect to the sun and the size. In addition, another limiting factor in ensuring good welfare levels was the social isolation of animals. All staff working in the kennel had a course to conduct and train the dogs of the 3ºBPE. Therefore, studying and seeking information on the behavior of the dog, can help in its handling and guarantee of well-being. Understanding how dogs learn can help trainers in choosing techniques and training methods that ensure efficient and positive work for dogs.
