Fungi are microorganisms that cause primarily non-life threatening infections in immunocompetent hosts and invasive and fatal ones in immunocompromised subjects. Cancer patients, autoimmune diseases carriers, transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS patients or people under treatment with immunosuppressive agents are at higher risk of developing invasive mycoses.
