Abstract

A longevidade dos gatos tem aumentado nos últimos anos devido à melhoria dos cuidados que são oferecidos a eles e atualmente são considerados como membros da família. Os donos estão cada vez mais dispostos a investir no bem-estar de seus animais, para que tenham melhor qualidade de vida e vivam mais. À medida que a população de gatos idosos vem aumentando o médico veterinário deve aprimorar seus conhecimentos, entender as mudanças físicas, fisiológicas e principais doenças que acometem felinos com idade avançada para atender essa nova demanda.

The longevity of cats has increased in recent years due to improved care that are offered to them and are currently considered as family members. Owners are increasingly willing to invest in the welfare of their animals so that they have a better quality of life and live longer. As the elderly cat population is on the rise, the veterinarian must sharpen their knowledge, understand the physical, physiological, and major changes that affect older cats to meet this new demand.
