O comportamento das massas em Coriolano e Júlio César, de William Shakespeare

Abstract

Este artigo investiga o papel das massas em comparação com outros personagens em duas peças de William Shakespeare. Levando em conta Coriolano e Júlio César, o artigo enfoca a forma pela qual Shakespeare retrata as massas, dando-lhes uma voz nas peças, permitindo-nos entender o comportamento das massas em sua exibição sociopolítica e seus aspectos psicológicos. Com a ajuda dos textos teóricos selecionados, este trabalho ajuda-nos a investigar se as massas shakespearianas dirigem-se ao sagrado, se elas se comportam de maneira racional, ou se são volúveis na tomada de decisão através das peças.

This paper investigates the role of the masses in comparison with other characters in two plays of William Shakespeare. Taking into account Coriolanus and Julio Caesar, the paper focuses on the form by which Shakespeare depicts the masses by giving them a voice in the plays, enabling us to understand the behaviour of the masses in their sociopolitical display and their psychological aspects. With the help of the theorical texts selected, this work helps us to investigate whether the shakespearean masses drive themselves to the sacred, or whether they behave in a rational way, or yet whether they are voluble in their decision making through the plays.
