Os mundos possíveis na literatura fantástica de J. K. Rowling e Renata Ventur

Abstract

Esta monografia investiga as séries literárias “Harry Potter” (1997–2007), da inglesa J. K. Rowling, e “A Arma Escarlate” (2011–presente), da brasileira Renata Ventura, a partir da cria ção de seus mundos — ou universos —, os quais apresentam cruzamentos não apenas entre si, mas também entre a realidade conhecida e habitada por seus leitores. Por meio de uma meto dologia que combina a história das ideias de Anthony Grafton (2006) e a literatura comparada de Tânia Franco Carvalhal (2006), esta pesquisa aproxima as obras literárias da teoria dos mun dos possíveis de Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (2004) e da teoria dos multiversos de Stephen Haw king e Thomas Hertog (2023). Neste sentido, os estudos de Tzvetan Todorov (2017), Lubomír Doležel (1988) e John E. Nolt (1986) são imprescindíveis para que se possa compreender como as particularidades do gênero fantástico foram desenvolvidas por ambas as autoras na consti tuição de suas fantasias mágicas como realidades alternativas à nossa. Além da análise compa rativa dessas literaturas segundo a abordagem proposta, esta pesquisa apresenta algumas suges tões de novos caminhos para o estudo de multiversos literários.

This monograph investigates the literary series “Harry Potter” (1997–2007) by the English au thor J. K. Rowling, and “A Arma Escarlate” (2011–present) by the Brazilian author Renata Ventura, focusing on the creation of their worlds — or universes — which not only intersect with each other but also with the reality known and inhabited by their readers. Through a meth odology that combines Anthony Grafton’s history of ideas (2006) and Tânia Franco Carvalhal’s comparative literature (2006), this research approaches the literary works with Gottfried Wil helm Leibniz’s possible worlds theory (2004) and Stephen Hawking and Thomas Hertog’s mul tiverse theory (2023). In this sense, the studies of Tzvetan Todorov (2017), Lubomír Doležel (1988), and John E. Nolt (1986) are essential to understand how the specificities of the fantasy genre were developed by both authors in the construction of their magical fantasies as alterna tives to our reality. In addition to the comparative analysis of these literatures according to the proposed approach, this research presents some suggestions for new paths in the study of liter ary multiverses.
