Abstração e iluminação : Henrique de Gand e a recepção do ceticismo

Abstract

Este trabalho investiga a ocorrência da resposta ao problema do ceticismo em Henrique de Gand. Partindo de uma breve contextualização a respeito do ceticismo no período medieval, e inserindo Henrique de Gand neste contexto, este trabalho apresenta a satisfação das condições de suficiência e necessidade da resposta de Henrique de Gand ao ceticismo por meio de três vias: a refutação teórica, a refutação prática e a auto-refutação. Para que se chegue à compreensão das três vias de refutação oferecidas por Henrique, apresentamos as características fundamentais das teorias da iluminação divina e da abstração; os argumentos que visam defender a possibilidade de conhecimento por seres humanos presentes na Summa Quaestionum Ordinariarum (a.1, q.1-2); e, finalmente, como se encontra a refutação do ceticismo no texto de Henrique, indo da crítica de Duns Scotus à identificação das três vias de refutação do ceticismo.

This work investigates the response to the problem of skepticism in Henry of Ghent. Starting with a brief contextualization of skepticism in the Middle Ages, and placing Henry of Ghent within this context, this work presents the sufficiency and necessity conditions of Henry of Ghent’s response to skepticism through three approaches: theoretical refutation, practical refutation, and self-refutation. In order to understand the three refutation approaches offered by Henry, we present the fundamental characteristics of the theories of divine illumination and abstraction; the arguments defending the possibility of knowledge by human beings found in the Summa Quaestionum Ordinariarum (a.1, q.1-2); and, finally, how skepticism is refuted in Henry’s text, going from Duns Scotus’ critique to the identification of the three refutation approaches to skepticism.
