Manual do oriente médio : um guia antimaniqueísmos para estudantes

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo apresentar a temática do Oriente Médio e os povos árabes no contexto do Ensino de Sociologia e dos estudos pós coloniais. Foi realizada uma contextualização sócio histórica dos povos árabes e do Oriente Médio em três momentos diferentes, juntamente com a mobilização de conceitos (Etnocentrismo, Xenofobia, Islamofobia etc.) que resultaram em um material didático. Neste material, compreenderemos o fenômeno do Orientalismo, questionando visões reducionistas e discriminatórias sobre o Oriente Médio, problematizando a história, cultura e os estereótipos que a mídia e o imperialismo ajudaram a construir. Também é explicado como o Orientalismo moldou a percepção ocidental sobre o Oriente Médio desde a Antiguidade. O livreto que servirá como um material didático, objetiva instrumentalizar os leitores para compreender como estereótipos, narrativas históricas e discursos midiáticos moldam percepções e promovem atitudes preconceituosas e xenófobas. O material propõe reflexões sociológicas, históricas e culturais que incentivam a adoção do relativismo cultural para evitar julgamentos e preconceitos, promovendo uma visão mais crítica e plural sobre as diferenças culturais. Também fornece indicações de materiais complementares (filmes, livros, documentários) para aprofundar o entendimento sobre o tema e sensibilizar para as consequências sociais e políticas dessas representações equivocadas.

The present study investigates the theme of the Middle East and Arab peoples within the context of Sociology teaching and postcolonial studies. It outlines a socio historical contextualization of the Arab peoples and the Middle East across three distinct moments, combined with the mobilization of key concepts such as ethnocentrism, xenophobia, and Islamophobia, which informed the development of a didactic booklet. This material aims at examining the phenomenon of Orientalism, challenging reductionist and discriminatory representations of the Middle East, and problematizing the historical, cultural, and stereotypical constructs shaped by imperialist narratives and media discourse. The study further explores how Orientalism has shaped Western perceptions of the region since Antiquity. The didactic booklet, produced as an educational resource, seeks to equip readers with the tools to critically engage with the ways in which stereotypes, historical narratives, and media framings influence perceptions and reinforce xenophobic and prejudiced attitudes. It encourages sociological, historical, and cultural reflection, promoting the adoption of cultural relativism as a means of avoiding ethnocentric judgments and fostering a more critical and pluralistic perspective on cultural diversity. Finally, the material offers recommendations for complementary resources (films, books, documentaries) aimed at deepening the understanding of the topic and raising awareness of the social and political implications of misrepresentations.
