Avaliação da coleção de periódicos da biblioteca da Escola de Administração da UFRGS

Abstract

Realiza uma avaliação da coleção de periódicos da Biblioteca da Escola de Administração da UFRGS, visando o desbastamento de acordo com os fatores de uso da coleção pelos docentes e discentes de pós-graduação da instituição. Contextualiza os seguintes assuntos: periódico científico, bases de dados, desenvolvimento de coleções, estudo de comunidades e usuários, políticas de desenvolvimento de coleções, seleção, aquisição, desbastamento, avaliação de coleções. Na metodologia estão dispostos: o tipo de estudo, a população e a amostra a ser utilizada, o instrumento de coleta de dados, o pré-teste, como foi realizada a coleta dos dados e as limitações da pesquisa. A metodologia que foi empregada foi de caráter exploratório qualitativo. É constatada a pouca freqüência na utilização da coleção de periódicos impressos. A facilidade foi o motivo mais verificado na análise quando da utilização das revistas impressas. Verifica-se que maioria dos usuários prefere utilizar periódicos no formato eletrônico. Bases de dados on-line de periódicos são usados com bastante freqüência pelos pesquisadores. Evidencia que o site da biblioteca é visado pela maioria dos professores e alunos de pós-graduação na busca por artigos científicos. A facilidade e a comodidade foram as vantagens mais citadas pela amostra na utilização de bases de periódicos on-line. EBSCO, ProQuest e o Portal Capes, são as bases mais utilizadas para a recuperação de periódicos científicos. Excesso de informações é a maior dificuldade percebida pela amostra na pesquisa às bases on-line. Constata que maioria dos pesquisadores afirma preferir acessar os periódicos científicos fora do ambiente físico da biblioteca.

It realizes an evaluation of the collection of journals of the Library of the School of Administration of the UFRGS, aiming at the rough-hewing according to the factors of use of the collection by the professors and students of post-graduation of the institution. It contextualizes the following subjects: scientific journals, databases, development of collections, study of communities and users, collections development politics, selection, acquisition, rough-hewing, evaluation of collections. In the methodology are arranged: the kind of study, the population and the sample it to be utilized, the instrument of collection of data, the pre-test, as was carried out the collection of the data and the limitations of the research. The methodology that was utilized was of qualitative exploratory character. Certify the little frequency in the utilization of the printed journals collection. The facility was the motive more verified in the analysis on the occasion of the utilization of the printed journals. It verifies that majority of the users prefer to utilize journals in the electronic format. On-line databases of journals are used with enough frequency by the researchers. It evidences that the site of the library is aimed at by the majority of the professors and students of post-graduation in the search by scientific articles. The facility and the comfort were the advantages more cited by the sample in the on-line databases of journals utilization. EBSCO, ProQuest and the “Portal Capes” are the databases more utilized for the recuperation of scientific journals. Excess of information is the bigger difficulty sensed by the sample in the research in the on-line databases. Certify that majority of the researchers affirms to prefer to access the scientific journals outside of the physical environment of the library.
