Devaneio e embriaguez duma rapariga, uma análise contrastiva de duas traduções para o inglês de Clarice Lispector sob a ótica de Vinay e Darbelnet

Abstract

O presente estudo compara as traduções de Giovanni Pontiero (LISPECTOR, 1972) e Katrina Dodson (LISPECTOR, 2015) do conto "Devaneio e embriaguez duma rapariga" de Clarice Lispector para o inglês, buscando determinar se as versões comunicam o mesmo sentido, a mesma impressão e o mesmo estilo que o texto original. Utilizando as Modalidades de Tradução de Jean-Paul Vinay e Jean Darbelnet (1958), o estudo amparado por análise contrastiva e assistido pelo uso do software AntConc, analisa as escolhas e estratégias de tradução empregadas por ambos os tradutores. A pesquisa investiga como essas abordagens impactam a transmissão da voz autoral de Lispector e a preservação da singularidade estilística do texto original em português. A análise crítica enfatiza não apenas as semelhanças e diferenças nas traduções, mas também os efeitos dessas escolhas na experiência de leitura dos textos traduzidos, explorando até que ponto os elementos essenciais da prosa lispectoriana são mantidos ou transformados. Através dessa investigação, busca-se contribuir para o entendimento das complexidades envolvidas na tradução de obras literárias, especialmente daquelas que possuem uma voz autoral tão distintiva quanto a de Clarice Lispector.

The present study compares the translations by Giovanni Pontiero (LISPECTOR, 1972) and Katrina Dodson (LISPECTOR, 2015) of Clarice Lispector's short story "Daydream and Drunkenness of a Young Lady" into English, aiming to determine if the versions convey the same meaning, impression, and style as the original text does. Using the Translation Methods of Jean-Paul Vinay and Jean Darbelnet (1958), the study, undertaken as a contrastive analysis assisted by the software AntConc, examines the translation choices and strategies employed by each translator. The research investigates how these approaches impact the transmission of Lispector's authorial voice and the preservation of the original text's stylistic uniqueness in Portuguese. The critical analysis emphasizes not only the similarities and differences in the translations but also the effects of such choices on the reading experience of the translated texts, exploring to what extent the essential elements of Lispector's prose are maintained or transformed. Through this investigation, the study seeks to contribute to the understanding of the complexities involved in translating literary works, especially those with such a distinctive authorial voice as that of Clarice Lispector.
