Uma apresentação do gênero dating sim através do jogo Obey me! One master to rule them all

Abstract

Este trabalho apresenta e comenta o jogo de simulação Obey Me! One Master to Rule Them All, desenvolvido pela NTT Solmare Corporation, para entender como se estrutura esse tipo de narrativa virtual e os motivos de sua grande aceitação internacional. Lançado em 2019, este dating sim japonês cativou tanto o público oriental quanto o ocidental com sua história, narrativa, personagens e interface, tornando-se um dos mais famosos do gênero, que se insere na categoria de otome game (jogos voltados para mulheres). A presente monografia se estrutura em duas partes. A primeira relata a história desse gênero virtual, explicita conceitos e examina características de sua narrativa interativa. A segunda parte apresenta o jogo para um público brasileiro, explorando a ambientação, os personagens e a estrutura narrativa, procurando entender como ocorre a interatividade entre jogador e jogo. O lastro teórico da pesquisa se apoia em textos de Dani Cavallaro (2009) e da dupla Josiah Lebowitz e Chris Klug (2011), que trabalham com os gêneros dating sim e visual novel; e do trio Gabriela Rodrigues Diniz, Júlio César V. Ferreira e Rafael Dirques D. Regis (2022), que investigam o gênero otome game. Ao término do trabalho, espero que este estudo contribua para a compreensão do papel dos jogos virtuais nos novos formatos de narrativa ficcional.

This work presents and comments on the romance simulation game Obey Me! One Master to Rule Them All, developed by NTT Solmare Corporation, to understand how this type of virtual narrative is structured, and the reasons for its international acceptance. Released in 2019, this Japanese dating sim captivated both Eastern and Western audiences with its story, narrative, characters, and interface, becoming one of the most famous in the genre, which falls into the category of otome game (games aimed at women). The monograph is structured in two parts. The first conveys a brief account of this virtual genre, explaining concepts and examining characteristics of its interactive narrative. The second introduces the game to a Brazilian audience, exploring the setting, the characters and the narrative structure, to identify how the interactivity between player and game takes place. The theoretical support consists of texts by Dani Cavallaro (2009), and the duo Josiah Lebowitz and Chris Klug (2011), who study the genres dating sim and visual novel; and the trio Gabriela Rodrigues Diniz, Júlio César V. Ferreira and Rafael Dirques D. Regis (2022), who work with the otome game genre. As a result of the research, I hope that this study may contribute to the understanding of the role played by virtual games in the new formats of fictional narrative.
