(Re)construindo Draco Malfoy : como o desenvolvimento de personagem permite seu reconhecimento descaracterizado em uma fanfiction

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a caracterização do personagem Draco Malfoy em fanfics do gênero slash, demonstrando que um desenvolvimento bem construído pode alterar seus aspectos canônicos sem prejudicar o reconhecimento do personagem na fanfic. O estudo utilizou o método desenvolvido por Jens Eder (2010) para, primeiramente, analisar o personagem Draco Malfoy no cânone de Harry Potter, e depois, verificar sua caracterização nas fanfics Away Childish Things e Evitative. Foram escolhidas fanfics com a extensão de um romance, relevantes ao fandom de Harry Potter e que só divergem do cânone a partir de determinado ponto da linha temporal. A análise de Away Childish Things demonstrou que a descaracterização do personagem pode ser feita de maneira coerente, permitindo seu reconhecimento, desde que sua reconstrução obedeça a determinados critérios. Utilizando o recurso narrativo de missing scenes, a fanfic adiciona camadas ao personagem que não estavam presentes na sua caracterização canônica, destacando e aprofundando eventos implícitos ou pouco explorados no cânone. Em contrapartida, a análise de Evitative evidenciou que a descaracterização sem uma motivação coerente e um desenvolvimento criterioso resulta na perda de reconhecimento e autenticidade do personagem. Além disso, sustentar a descaracterização sem uma forte motivação e sem a manutenção do mythos, topos e ethos canônicos (Klastrup; Tosca, 2004), pode acarretar incoerências, afastando o leitor do reconhecimento tanto do personagem quanto do universo de origem.

The present work aims to analyze the characterization of Draco Malfoy in slash fanfics, showing that well-constructed development can alter his canonical aspects without hindering the recognition of the character in fanfics. The study utilized the method developed by Jens Eder (2010) to first analyze the character Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter canon, and then to examine his characterization in the fanfics Away Childish Things and Evitative. For this, Fanfiction stories with the length of a novel, relevant to the Harry Potter fandom, and diverging from the canon only from a certain point in the timeline were chosen. The analysis of Away Childish Things demonstrated that the de-characterization of the character can be done coherently, allowing for recognition, as long as his reconstruction follows certain criteria. Using the narrative device of missing scenes, the fanfic adds layers to the character that were not present in his canonical characterization, highlighting and deepening events that are implied or little explored in the canon. Conversely, the analysis of Evitative revealed that de-characterization without coherent motivation and careful development results in the loss of recognition and authenticity of the character. Additionally, sustaining de-characterization without strong motivation and without maintaining the canonical mythos, topos, and ethos (Klastrup; Tosca, 2004) can lead to inconsistencies, distancing the reader from recognizing both the character and the original universe.
